I really admire people who write well. This article totally made me feel 'wow!' after reading it.
Well I was surfing around at Highsnobiety and I came across this article :
New Dandyism

dan·dy (dăn’dē)
n., pl. -dies.
A man who affects extreme elegance in clothes and manners; a fopOver the last few centuries Dandyism has been described in many different ways. Whether romantically described as men who designed their own personalities and broke radically with the traditions of the past or with disdain, described as a reproach to the responsible citizen of the middle class.
True dandies are revolutionaries, not just in dress, but in lifestyle. They didn’t just dress differently FIRST, they acted differently FIRST. They were self-created men who consciously designed their own personalities and broke radically from the traditions of the past. And they were imitated to no end.
There has been a new cultural resurgence of dandyism. It has moved beyond the over used and often misappropriated “metro sexual”. Men have a new appreciation for fashion, design, and taste. I don’t think men have cared so much about how they look in decades, perhaps centuries, and probably have never been so proud of the time they put into their appearance.
The term “New Dandyism” doesn’t describe a specific style. Yes, “street” fashion is maturing, and as it matures a level of sophistication is emerging. While, in some ways, street fashion, has been getting louder and more extroverted with every season, a quieter, more introverted side is emerging. It doesn’t sit in opposition to the “all-over” prints. It compliments them.
Both aesthetics draw inspiration from classic forms. Take a closer look and you will find that today’s street fashion is taking a modern approach to these classic forms. Re-interpreting classic pieces by applying modern materials, colors, and patterns. But also by adding details to increase usability and comfort.
In the future I will focus on the brands that embody these qualities, including such diverse brands as: Call of the Wild, Sticks N’ Stones, Obedient Sons, wood wood, Rag and Bone, Nicholas K, and Umbro by Kim Jones.
It not about the glitz and glitter, it’s about quality.
Hmm. Very interesting indeed. Pretty much sums up my thoughts about fashion and myself in general, although it would be some time before I reach such a level of 'highness'. Hah.
